The Aussies
Archie the Red Rover
Court JesterArchie was born on my birthday, a different year, of course! (Feb 18, 2019) On his online puppy profile was a photo of him with an angry face. My husband proclaimed, “he looks angry like Archie Bunker!” Hence, the name. I knew he was meant to be part of our family.
He likes to sit on chairs and climb on things. We call him the “Court Jester” because he is a goofball, always wanting to play (when he’s not sleeping or eating). Why take life so seriously? Right?
When outside, he prefers shady locations (his eyes are sensitive to light, note the hat in the photo) and likes to hold down the front or back porch for us. His favorite time of year is SNOW SEASON!
Aussies are very vocal with crazy sounds when they speak, and Archie loves to announce how happy he is each morning as he twerks in various positions. He has mastered the art of cuteness and is the most photogenic dog I’ve ever experienced in my life.
Agility Approach: It’s a day sniffing the grass on the playground and body-bumping friends.
Bossy Aussie (Bossy Bitch)Sophie the Coconut Comet
When we adopted Sophie, it was an interesting situation; many rules came with her, such as the requirement of pawrents who understood the Australian Shepherd breed and its unique characteristics. I knew she was meant to be part of our family.
She had a rough start as a puppy, adopted by a family in an apartment with other dogs. She was crated all week while humans went about their day. The breeder reclaimed her at around 10 months old. Then she spent her time on the horse ranch, along with the Aussie breeding atmosphere. She had to share the humans and the couch with multiple dogs who had seniority. Then she found us!
Focused, approachable, and driven by results, our Bossy Aussie manages our herd (family) every day. We absolutely adore our favorite girl and protector, who is always ready for action.
She has mastered the art of “bumpy blue squeakball retrieval” and requires 4-6 rounds per day at a minimum. Agility training keeps her mind active, which is what a busybody needs.
Agility Approach: I’m all business, there’s a job to do!!!
